The electricity consumed in data centers and telecom systems is 3% of the U.S. total and growing rapidly each year. A variety of evaluation tools, guidelines, energy assessments, and other resources are available to support energy management in information and communication facilities. However, research is needed to accelerate the use of emerging energy-saving techniques (e.g., ambient cooling, use of DC power) and develop novel technologies that dramatically reduce the energy footprint of data centers and telecom systems.
The purpose of this invitation-only workshop is to envision the energy future of the information and communication technology industries. Participants will identify pathways to achieving this vision, including collaborative activities between industry and the U.S. Department of Energy.
The workshop is sponsored by the Silcon Valley Leadership Group and graciously hosted by Yahoo! Inc.
